So, set the scene… you have a really cool idea which you think might just make a difference in the world… we all have these ideas but how many of us actually execute and deliver the end goal?
dBud by Ear Labs did, and in my opinion they nailed it! As a music photographer it is key to look after my ears. Something which may be overlooked by many. The team needed to build up $50,000 through a Kickstarter campaign and on the 19th May 2017 the team reached this, when the campaign finally finished the project raised a total of $132,060. This got me excited and I couldn’t wait to get my pair.
I wont lie, it took a fair bit of time for the product to be delivered, but not because of the companies shoddy service but because they wanted to get every little detail right. I can proudly say, the product was worth the wait! After numerous gigs, these products are standing the test of time, with no faults for me.
Important things to know, these are not a sound cancelling ear plug, the design is to deliver only clear, safe sound. Just like many other products on the market. But whats makes these different and worthy of a review you may ask?….. The team only went and develop an earplug with an adjustable volume switch. How friggin cool is this!!
The ear plugs can be set to reduce noise by15db or 30db, so for me what does this mean? I can adjust the volume according to what I am shooting. An acoustic session now can hold the -15db setting whilst tearing it up for some European rock music will need the -30db, giving a great range all in one product and pairing with its award winning smart acoustic filtering, your ears are really being looked after both from a health care perspective and the audio delivery side
The journey for me started with some pretty awful ear plugs, I lost them and cant remember the name of them, so you can imagine how much I rated these. I then went on to Alpine MusicPro, yeah ok not going to lie, these were really good, but once again, I lost these so thought id try something new, this is when I saw the dBud Kickstarter campaign. My nerdy side came out and I got excited. In the meantime I tried another product which was pretty good to be honest too, I liked them and still have them, but truth be told, these blow them out the water with comfort, quality and performance, as well as the case they come in!
Instead of a metal screw top tin, these were delivered in what can only be described pacman, this little rubber disk is flexible and fits in your pocket easy, but give it a squeeze and the earplugs along with their removable fabric leash. Which is where we move onto my next winning point. When I dont have these in, the neck strap comes into play, with the ear plugs being magnetic, they stick together making a magic magnetic necklace to wear in style! So cool and means I cant lose them (again).
So what do you get for your money? In a standard box you with get
1 x set or dBud earplugs
Small, medium and large silicone buds as well as small, medium and large foam buds
Pocket sized carry case
Removable fabric leash
Quick start guide
These really are a great product, the music still sounds great, they feel comfy. For me it’s the medium silicone buds, and just everything about them screams attention to detail.
I really would highly recommend these to anyone, we need to look after our ears in the pit and right now dBud and the antidote I recommend.
